Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Stolen Personal Property

The property stolen is a horse. Horse was in possession of friends who I had a verbal free lease agreement with. Agreement was they could use/ride horse for free but were responsible for care. They gave horse away to an ''organization'' and are now claiming ownership. Horse is registered in my name, of course. ''organization'' is aware of all this and I have spoken to them regarding situation. They refuse to return horse to me claiming to now be the horses owner. Informed me that there is nothing that can be done unless leasee changes story, which I am sure they will not. I've been told a lot of different things on this, primarily that all that matters is that i possess the registration papers and that is all that is required to est. ownership. But the ''organization'' is confident that I will not be able to get my horse back. Please advise. Thank you.
