Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Hello, heres my story and questions.

On June 1st my 2 year old son and I woke up at about 10am (after being up half the night with him and his 4 year old sister, fighting the vomiting and fevers due to them catching Hand, Foot, and Mouth at a birthday party a couple of days before). I changed his diaper and set him up in the living room with some cartoons and a poptart. Then I went to disinfect the bathroom so I could run him a Calamine Bath to help with the itchiness. Fifteen to twenty minutes later I went to go grab him. And I walked down the hall and seen the front door open. My heart dropped. I ran to the door and there was my naked son (he is two and constantly is stripping odd his diaper) out on the porch with our dog. And there were police standing in the road in front of my house. My neighbors had called the cops and told them my son was outside for 45 minutes (LIE).So, to sum this up, I was arrested and charged with a Class One Misdeamnor: Contributing to delinquency of a minor, I spent that Saturday, Sunday, and Monday in JAIL. I was released on a PR Bond and appointed an attorney. (Who refuses to talk to me about all of this and what is going on until our appointment , which is only a couple of days prior to my court date. Needless, to say I am freaking out. I have never been in any kind of trouble before and am horrified that I was arrested and charged with something that is negative against my child. Anyone who knows me, knows that those children are my world and I would never do anything to intentionally harm them. It was an accident. (I now have an alarm on my door that goes off when opened) I have researched the consequences of this charge and it states that i could get 12 months in jail, my license suspended for a year, and a 500 dollar fine. My question is, is there anyway I can get this charge dropped? And Do you think I am really facing jail time and my license being suspended as well as a fine? I need advice and help. I cant go back to jail and/or lose my license as I am a working mother and wife. Please if anyone has any knowledge of this, i could really use some help.

No, it is most unlikely that this charge will be dropped and you would be very well advised to assure that you have a competent and appropriately experienced criminal defense counsel representing' you in the matter.
