Summons versus Warrant
My friend and I received a summons to appear in court and we are not sure as to whether or not a summons and warrant are the same thing or what they mean.

Re: Summons versus Warrant
A warrant is written authorization by a duly authorized judicial officer for the arrest of the individual named in the warrant, whereas a summons is normally simply a notice to appear in court properly served upon or issued to the person named in the summons.
In terms of criminal justice procedures, warrants are normally reserved for more serious crimes such as felonies while summonses may be issued for less serious offenses, typically misdemeanors.
