suspended imposition of sentence (SIS)

Hello, my son was charged and convicted of assualt and battery at age 18. Judge gave him 90 days, 2 yrs unsupervised probation and 150 hours community service. She also gave him an SIS. He finished his probation. Will he still have a ''record?'' I thought if he got an SIS and satisfied all requirements, it will never show up as a conviction.

If your son received the disposition

known as SIS(Suspended Imposition of Sentence)which is normally available only to first time offenders, and he successfully completes his probation, his case should be closed out by the court at the end of the probationary period with no record of a conviction for this particular offense.

Your son, however, should be acutely aware that if he's brought up on any more criminal charges of which he's found guilty (or enters a plea of such), the disposition will likely be quite different, meaning no SIS and a record of conviction that probably cannot be expunged.
