Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

What time would someone be facing if he violated his 10 yr probation for the 2d time by committing a felony? The court appointed public defender did not say what he can/would do to help...should we consider hiring a lawyer and how do we go about looking for someone experienced in dealing with probation violation in the local court?

Hire a private criminal defense counsel if the public defender does not appear properly attentive to the case, e.g., phone calls not returned in reasonable time frame or time alloted to discuss case with defendant and further investigate the charge(s).

Technically speaking, whatever time was suspended on the underlying case could now be imposed on the defendant by the sentencing judge, and if it's the second probation violation involving a felony, that well might happen (in my opinion).
