Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
first time felon plead guility to child neglect
I was charged with a DUI because of an accident. Had a minor child on the vehichle. Was also charged with a Class 6 felony. Was indicted by a grand jury for the charge of child neglect. I was advised by my lawyer to plead guility. The prison term was suspended, However; I now have a felony conviction on my record. How long will it remain? Will I ever be able to pursue my goal of teaching after struggling to receive a degree?

As records of felony convictions in the Commonwealth are not expungable unless you can prove that you were wrongfully convicted and consequently have received a pardon from the governor (See Va. Code Sec. 392.2 et seq.), I regret to report that your record will likely remain as long as the Commonwealth keeps such records.
