Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Traffic citation

I received a citation stating I failed to stop at a stop sign. The statute written by the officer refers to failing to yield right of way. The officer told me I failed to stop at a stop sign. The statute referenced is a 4 point violation and a stop sign is a 3 point violation. How should I protest this in court as I feel I did neither wrong but I also know the officer has more credibility with a judge than I do. I also want to make sure if I am convicted I am only assessed 3 points and not 4. The total cost is under $100. It is a guilt/innocence point violation issue. Please provide advice.

Thank you.

Re: Traffic citation

See the prosecutor before court begins on the day of your scheduled hearing and offer to plead to the three point violation, if in fact that's what you may be guilty of.
