As a first time offender, you should be eligible for what Virginia calls an SIS(Suspended Imposition of Sentence) which is probation with deferred sentencing, and no sentencing at all if you complete all the conditions of your probation successfully which would give you the opportunity to emege from the incident with no record of a criminal conviction for the petty larceny charge. (An optimal disposition of this kind of case and you should grab it if given the opportunity--assuming that you're in fact guilty of the charge.)
