Wearling fake security officer badge and weapon

I was working as a security officer on over-night shift in an unsafe area patrolling the parking lot of a building. I told my boss that I do not feel safe and he told me to get anything that makes me feel safe. I bought from Wal-Mart a fake security badge, a fake Pallet gun and fake handcuffs just to help me feel safe if attacked. My boss knew this and told me he would reimburse the money. I did not use any of them. Today my boss told me that I was seen wearing them by the local security personnel present on the property and reported to the local police. After having a conversation with my boss about a possible outcome he said that after consulting with a police detective friend of his the chances are pretty high of me being charged with impersonating police and that a charge as such would be classified as a Class 1 Felony and carry a sentence of up to 5 years in state penitenciary. With the proper lawyer what are my chances for this scenario to be reduced to something less grave? What if I would be to plead temporary insanity? Is there a chance for a reduced sentence accompanied by placing on probation? Please advise asap. Thank you.

In spite of what the police detective

might think, I rather doubt that you will be charged with(let alone convicted)of impersonating a police officer under these particular facts.(If, as you say, you didn't use any of these items, how could you be charged with impersonating a police officer?)

But, of course, if I'm wrong you should hire the best attorney you can afford to represent you in this matter

and, no, an insanity defense would not work in this situation.
