Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Virginia

health descrimination

i have a job that is salary based. recently due to medical problems i have been forced to take a days off from work to attend doctors visits. after i had the baby i have been experincing sharp pains in my lower stomach area, the doctors have yet to detremine the reason for this pain. the pain has now been goin gon for 2 years. I even had surgery that was supposed to take care of this but no luck. anyways as this is going on, my boss has tols me that she is planning on firing me if i don't make up the time to get my work done. any time that i have needed for doctors i have been using my vacation and time off. I have been told that when people in the office take vacation time they are suppposed to make up for the work they don;t do while on vacation when they get back, therefore i assume they want me to come in weekends to do extra work which im not being paid for. can they fire me becuasei need to take care of my health, its not like i enjoy going to the doctors and paying them off since my insurance won't cover some of the doctor bills. thank you

Re: health descrimination

Unless you're protected under a contract or

collective bargaining type agreement or your

leave is authorized under the Family Medical

Leave Act(FMLA), your company doing business

in the employment at will jurisdiction known

as the Commonwealth of Virginia can terminate

you with virtual impunity as long as they're

careful not to violate any of the federally

protected categories.
