Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Virginia
work related discrimination
This morning October 11, 2005 I was hired at a Taco Bell franchise. The manager never asked me if I knew anyone that worked there or anything. Then this evening he called me and informed me that he couldn't hire me because my room-mate worked there. He thought we were a couple at first and when I informed him he we weren't a couple he still said I couldn't have the job the because we lived together. He has room-mate and couples that work there already, so I just wanted to know if he legaly not hire me or if that is ilegal. Thank You for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.

Re: work related discrimination
an "at will" employer is legally allowed to fire a person either for good cause or no cause whatsoever, however, they may NOT fire a person for "bad cause". meaning, if there is a discriminatory element in your claim here, that would have to be established before you would have standing to sue for some form of protected class discrimination (a "bad cause") here. if you would like further assistance, contact us today.
