Legal Question in DUI Law in Virginia

DUI and Insurance Rates

I had a pristine driving record until 5 years ago this past March. At that time I received a DUI for a BAC of 0.08. My auto insurance company (with which I'd had a 25-year relationship) knocked me down from its minimal-risk category to a higher-risk category, and my insurance rates went up about 50%.

When might I expect my insurance company to ''restore'' me to the minimal-risk category? For some reason I thought that 5 years was the ''magic number,'' but apparently (at least with my company) that's not true. I now suspect that it's a function of each company's own particular underwriting policies, but I also imagine that there are some industry statistics that one can draw upon to come up with an ''average.''

Yes, you're undoubtedly correct in surmising that it's likely "a function of each company's own particular underwriting policies", but the length of time that the DUI conviction officially stays on your DMV record may also be a factor which I believe in Virginia is something like 11 years.
