Legal Question in DUI Law in Virginia

Trying to reduce DUI conviction sentence

I received a DUI in Virginia in January 2001. I moved away to Missouri and was convicted for not appearing in court. I had a fine and was told that my license would be suspended for 1 year.

Obviously I wasn't able to get a license in Missouri.

I am currently paying the fine for Virginia and it has been approx 8 months since the conviction. My question is: I've been told that the 1 year suspension will not begin until the fine is paid in full. This means that after my balance which I will have paid off in a month then I will still have a year from that point to get any license. Or could I get a hardship license? Is this true or did it begin as soon as it was ordered in court?

Re: Trying to reduce DUI conviction sentence

You may apply immediately for a Missouri license,

fully disclosing on the application all information that is requested. The suspension of

your privilege to drive applies in Virginia only.

Whether you're now elgible for a Missouri license depends on the rules in Missouri that apply to

your particular situation.
