work release requirements and procedures
What does my employer need to do to participate in work release. I guess what I really want to know is does my employer even have to know?

You should avoid involving your employer in any aspect of your work release situation if at all possible (in my opinion), and, no, your employer doesn't necessarily "even have to know"(about it).
