If my ex and I have 50/50 joint legal and physical custody of our son, can she just pick up and move anywhere within the Coomonwealth that she wants without my approval?

No, the custody order should contain a provision requiring either parent to give 30 days advance notice of his or her intent to move with the child somewhere else and to the court as well, which should be sufficient time for the non-moving parent to request a hearing in order to contest the move.
