Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I have a 4 month old daughter. I went to court 2 weeks ago for custody and visitation. I was given one day a week supervised visitation with my daughter for 2 hours. I did not fight for custody due to my situation with substance abuse and legal problems in the past. I am currently in drug treatment and have been since august. I am currently unemployed and live at home with my father and his fiancee. The baby lives with her mother at her mother's granparents. I do not have a lawyer and she does. I was wondering if you could advise me on the most important steps I can take so that I can petition the court for joint custody. What is most important for me to do at this time and the appropriate steps to take and how hard will it be to get joint custody. Thank you so much for your time.

Stop the drugs, get a job, and, if possible, your own residence with resources

that will meet the needs and requirements of caring for a young child such

as your daughter.
