Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
I am 16 and pregnant. My question is should i get emancipated? I ask because i live with my mother in my grandmothers house. My mother no longer recives social services but does recive food stamps and is basicly living of my social security right now. I recive wic and am trying to do all the right things the doctors are telling me. Their is just one problem or a couple really. The father of my baby is 18 and also wonder if my parents can put stachatroy rap on him? I concived before i was 16 though. My mother and house hold is constantly putting me down. Telling me its my fault and i should not have done it among other things. I had also before i got pregnant to get grounded. She has still not let me off this groundation to see the father of my child nor the family to talk things out so that we know what we are all doing? It has been about 2months now that i have been grounded. Although i understand and agree why i have goten grounded i did sneak on the phone a couple of times and now it has been extended. Of course i understand that to but the constat put downs and then when i was first grounded she said their was no time limit and then she keeps saying its all my fault. The whole family does except my aunt and the father of my baby's family. What should i do?

Forget about emancipation as it would simply not work for someone like you in your particular circumstances (in my opinion). Neither would statutory rape be chargeable to the putative father since 15 years of age is the age of consent in the Commonwealth.
