Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

When i was 16, I signed papers saying, I was the father of a child, that I wasn't 100% sure was mine. Now the mother wants to go for Child Support, 15 years later. My question is: Can I get a DNA test to prove paternity, before I'm ordered to pay? Can I be held to something i signed as a minor? The child was born in Maryland and she is seeking support in Virginia. Please help.

Your remedy may be found at Va. Code Sec 20-49.10 entitled Relief from

legal determination of paternity which allows you to file a petition

with the local J&DR;court in the city or county where the

child resides to request that the court order a paternity test to

determine scientifically the biological father of the child and to

base its subsequent ruling(s) in the matter upon the results

of this test.
