Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

abandoment law????

My mother in law has a dog wich has been living in my house under my and my husbands care for about a year, she even gave me her dog clothes citing that was no use for them since she didnt had the dog anymore... This dog is the puppy of our dog, and they are very happy together but she is thinking about getting her dog back, and when we said we would like the dog to stay with us she said by law she still has the dog because she kept some of the dog clothes......Can we talk her out of it or does she really have the right to keep the dog even though she hasnt seen it for a whole year?

Re: abandoment law????

Unless your mother-in-law gave you her dog as a gift, you should return the dog to her, if now she really wants her dog back. And, on second thought, even if it was a gift, you should still return it to her, putting aside all pettifogging considerations of law which might deprive the old lady of the consoling presence of her puppy dog.
