Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Adoption and DNA

How do I get a DNA test to determine paternity if the child has been adopted by another family member. The father was unable to be located at the time and I do not believe that proper notice was given for the adoption.

Re: Adoption and DNA

You can challenge the adoption any time within 180 days of entry of the

court's final order for the adoption.

If more than 180 days have elapsed since the adoption was finalized, you might want to arrange for a consultation wih an attorney who is knowledgeable and experienced in Virginia adoption matters to determine whether there may be any remedy available to the alleged parent who allegedly failed to receive proper notice of the adoption proceeding.
