If my husband adopts my granddaughter for Social Security purposes can the adoption be voided at a later date as if it never happened?

No, as the adoption of children is not only for Social Security purposes, and once complete, cannot be voided except, perhaps, in rare instances involving fraud or other serious mishandling of the adoption process which may later come to light.
