Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Adoption

I seen on you last post that you said it would be easier to just have the mother have her husband adopted his step child. But Does the biological father have to be around even if he is nowhere to be found. Isn't some way around this. I mean My little girl's fater can care less what happens to me let alone her. I really need some legal advice I'm sick of my child holding on to and unhonorable name and baby makin man who calls him self a Father please to me what my options are. Thank you in advance for advice.

Re: Adoption

The biological father doesn't "have to be around" for the step-parent adoption to go through. Reasonable steps, however, must be taken to notify him of the pending adoption(including the termination of his parental rights) which, if he cannot be located, must include, with the court's permission, the publication of a notice of the pending adoption in the local newspaper for a number of successive weeks.
