Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
when is adoption voided
I adopted Meghan when she was 3 years, she is now 15. My wife is her real mother. She cursed my wife with foul language and my wife slapped Meghan. Meghan slapped her back and her mother slapped her again. She slipped to the sheriff's office and took an assult charge out on my wife.
I sent Meghan to stay with my father-in-law until all of this cooled down. My father in law has told meghan that the adoption was void because of what happened. the charges are not against me, but her mother. Meghan also went to Social Services to get back at her mother and told a lot of lies aginst my wife. Do I still have legal right has a father or is my father in law correct? What should be done about all of this?

Voided adoption?
No. Your father in law is wrong. You have full parental rights.
What you do with this point is best left to your lawyer, pastor and family therapist. You, however, need to act like a parent, which is what you are.
Good luck.

Where did your father-in-law receive his credentials as a family law practitioner which might qualify him to render such an opinion?
The School of Self-Appointed Bigmouths, undoubtedly.
According to Bigmouth's advisory opinion, your adoption of your wife's biological daughter, Meghan, is now void because the two of them got into a tiff(which apparently had nothing to do with you)?
Not hardly.
