Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
Affording an attorney
I want to fine for divorce in Virginia. I can not afford one and legal aid says I make to much. How can I find an attorney that will work with me with payments instead of having to have the money up front. If that's not possible, can I file for divorce without an attorney?

Yes, you can file for the divorce pro se (representing yourself). Some clerks of circuit court(civil division) have the packets with forms and instructions explaining how to do this without a lawyer.

Yes, you can file for divorce yourself, though if the divorce will be contested I strongly advise consulting an attorney. Also, be careful of forms you may see for sale over the internet. Often such forms are inaccurate, incomplete, and not even written by an attorney. With respect to finding an attorney who will agree to payments, you will have to ask around.
