Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Age child can move in Virginia

I have a friend who will be 18 next week and she wants to move in with her college aged sister in another state to go to college there. She has a job and her own car. Her parents tell her she cannot move out unless she graduates high school? Can she leave? She wants to get her GED and live away from her parents who are verbally abusive.

Re: Age child can move in Virginia

Sure, at 18 your friend will legally be considered an adult and may move wherever she pleases, irrespective of the wishes of her parents. However, her parents by virtue of their status

as parents with many more years of experience on Planet Earth than your friend, undoubtedly know better regarding this situation than your friend who will very likely rue the day that she failed to follow their advice.
