Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I would like to know what age a child/adult can leave home? because I have been reading online and it doesn't give a straight answer. the state would be Virginia, the age I am questioning is 17, but just in general would be nice to know.

A child age 17 is still considered a minor in the Commonwealth and therefore subject to the supervision, care and control of his or her parent(s) or legal guardian/caretaker.

And, consequently, a child of such age must continue to obey the

parents or guardian until s/he becomes legally an adult at age 18

and can then do what he or she pleases in regard to leaving home---

or whatever.
