Can a spouse be forced to obtain funds from their 401K plan to pay alimony?

Yes, a 401k may be distributed via alimony.

The spouse can be required under possible contempt of court to pay the alimony, but the source of the funds for such payment is up to the spouse. No court will require that the obligor for the support draw the funds from any particular source.
