Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I just got out of the Army and am trying to devorce my wife but while I was in the miltary my wife was going to court fighting for full custody of our son. I would really like to know what I can do and what my rights are to get joint custody. I would like for everything to be 50/50. what can I do to fight this now that everything has gotten started while I was gone?
