Re: assult and battery

Assault and battery is classified in the Commonwealth as a Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by a jail term not to exceed 12 months and a fine

of up to $2500, either or both.

If you are in possession of the defendant's paycheck, you should arrange to have him endorse the check over to you( by visiting the jail or wherever he may be).

You should not consider signing his name to the

check and having it cashed in order to pay bills that the defendant may owe either you or others.

Re: assult and battery

There is no way your inquiry can be answered on the basis of the very brief facts you provided.

I would have to know exactly what happened and why and what injuries or damages were inflicted.

Also would need what kind of a police or conviction record the defendant has. Finally, I would not write any check without first having competent legal advice.
