last name change

my daughter has my ex boyfriends last name and I want to change it to mine. I am canadian living in canada and my daughter was born in virginia, her father and I are not in contact for 10yrs... how can I change her last name to mine?. she lives with me and is now a canadian citizen.

A Canadian lawyer should address this question, but the name change would have to be done through a court in the Canadian jurisdiction where you now reside with your daughter.
