currently we have joint custody and he has physical custody and we want to drop the case out of court and handle it ourselves. How do we do this?

Re: changing child custody
What you've suggested is likely a bad idea, but a motion to vacate the current custody order could be filed in the court currently having jurisdiction over the custody matter, and, then it would be up to a judge to decide whether it would likely be in the best interests of the subject child(ren) to do so.
