child custody

parents divorced. child lives with mother, only wants short visits with father. mother dependent on prescription drugs for pain. grandparents want to get custody until problem resolved. child is 121/2 years old. is this possible?

It's possible, but complicated where the grandparents want to exercise visitation over the parents' objection. I would strongly recommend that you seek the assistance of an attorney. Generally, courts will be inclined to listen to a 12.5 year old's testimony, but the weight courts give such testimony greatly varies. Also, consider the impact on the child of being called to testify against his/her parents.

Also depends on father's position. If he's ok with it, not really a problem. If he objects, you're in court, and you may well need an attorney.
