Child Custody

My step-son and his wife are separated. She has custody of their 10 year old son. This child stays with me and my husband 5 or 6 days a week, which is fine with me. He's done this for 8 1/2 years. My grandson does not get along with his mother, he doesn't like staying with her. She threatens to pull him out of his school and send him to another school close to wear she lives or to a boy's home. The last time they got into an arguement she told him and me that he would never make her cry again that she would beat him to a bloody pulp if he raised his voice to her again. He's an honor roll student. Is their anything I can do to stop it if she does try to send him off?
