Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My child was recently diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome. He turned 18 this past January. I am extremely concerned because he is having symptoms that indicate heart problems which could cause his untimely death. He refuses to allow us to help him and doesn't want to see any more doctors. I can tell that he is really scared which is causing this negative attitude. Is there any way I can force him to get medical treatment due to the fact he is not thinking clearly. He lives alone and I am very, very concerned. He is contemplating running away to New York where he doesn't know anyone. He has no money and no where to live out of state.

No, your son being 18, is regarded as an adult under Virginia law and as such he cannot be forced to "get medical treatment" and very likely cannot be subjected to civil commitment proceedings merely because in you opinion "he is not thinking clearly".
