Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My child is currently residing with his paternal grandmother dur to some things that have been occuring at my home. She is seeking legal custody of him so that in the case of him having to be taken to the emergency room or her having to register him at another school she would be able to with no hassle.

Due to my son receiving medicaid and a variance of other sevices that are currently being provided; I would like to know if there is something that can be done which will allow her to have legal privileges to take care of my son holistically and he still be able to receive the services that he is now through medicaid?

If the paternal grandmother is awarded legal custody of this child she will have the authority to decide those matters.
