How old must a child be to select which parent he wants to stay with?

How old must a child living in the state of Virginia be to select which parent he wants to live with?

There is no statutory age, but most courts have a realistic attitude about whether a child of 14 or so can be forced to live with a parent the child does not wish to live with.
