Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Child Support after the age of 18

What is the age that child support stops in Virginia? Are there any circumstances other than the child being mentally or physically disabled that the court would make a parent continue to pay support? Also, when divorced, the agreement reads that support will be paid until the child reached the age of majority, marries which ever occurs first. Can a judege reverse that agreement, or is that considered a binding contract?

Re: Child Support after the age of 18

Child support may be extended past 18 in the case of a child that has not yet graduated from high school, in which case it goes until 19 or graduation, whichever sooner. Also, parents sometimes agree to obligate themselves to pay for post-graduate education, though there is no requirement that this be done. With respect to changing the agreement, child support is always subject to be alterred by the court in the case where the moving party establishes a change of circumstances, and that the change in support is necessary for the best interest of the child.
