Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Child Support Arrearage Collection After Jail

Hello,

My ex is getting out of jail soon and is in arrears of 62,000. My oldest child just turned 18 and my youngest will be 17 soon.

My question is if I can go after him for what he owes and if its best to wait for him to get a job first, will he have to pay the full amount until well after my youngest has turned 18? I know this sounds petty, but I am tired of him getting by without paying.

Yes, he will likely have to pay some of these arrearages but, probably not the

"full amount". (And, yes, the amount which the court orders him to pay could

well be influenced by whether or not he has a current income.)
