Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Child Support and College Loans

I'm currently paying child support in Virginia. $X is taken out of each paycheck, and I also have both kids on my employer's insurance, which effects the amount I have to pay each month (lowers it.) I just recently went back to college part time, but soon I would like to become a full time student in order to get my degree. I'm planning on applying for student loans to cover classes and living expences. I would be quitting my job, since there is no way I can work 50 hours per week and focus on school. My question is how will this affect the court ordered support? Are student loans considered income? Will I have to go back to court in order to have the previous payment arrangment changed? FYI, I do not claim either kid as a dependent. Thank you.

Re: Child Support and College Loans

Yes, you will have to go back to court "to have the previous arrangement changed", and the court will very likely not be too eager to accommodate these changes.
