In the Commonwealth of Virginia, how long does a non-custodial parent have to pay child support?

In the absence of extraordinary circumstances or an agreement between the parents to pay child support for a longer period of time, the obligation to pay child support continues until the child reaches the age of eighteen years.
There may be an obligation to continue to provide support for a child with certain disabilities. See Section 20-61 of the Code of Virginia.

Until age 18 or until graduation from high school, if the child is living at home with the custodial spouse and is a full time high school student and not self-supporting (a paper route with five customers won't eliminate the need for support).
It can continue for the life of the child if the child is physically or mentally disabled and cannot be self supporting.
