Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
child support for daughter
I was paying child support to my wife for our seventeen year old daughter who is six months from becoming eighteen. Since that time,my daughter came to live with me after her mom asked for help for her. For three or four months,my exwife has been paying me for child support up until Christmas after I have been spending a great deal of funds on my daughter where my exwifes funds only covered about a third of the cost for her keeping. Now my exwife is telling me that she has recently had her wages garnished and that she is not going to pay any more child support what so ever and for me to be responsible for our daughter from now on regardless and to fulfill all of her needs until my daughter is eighteen years of age. I only got a small portion of the child support she promised to me for the month of December and no funds were paid out to me in the month of January.I have tried to work things out but to no avail. I need help in my financial situation and all the time that I paid out child support over a four and a half year period,I never missed any or was even late. This was all a verbal agreement between us but I have all of the cancelled money orders through my bank that she has been paying me all the time up until now. Help me!

You should consider making application
for DCSE (Division of Child Support Enforcement)services at your local
district office which should be able to assist you in enforcing and collecting any unpaid child support owed by your former wife. (There is no cost for this service.)
