Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Child Support Enforcement

For over 2 years I have been working with the Virginia Dept of Child Support Enforcement to collect child support from my son's father. I have an official administrative case with the Department with over $8,000 due in back child support. Right now they are saying nothing can be done however, he moved out of state over a year ago and from what I understand this is a federal offense. They can't seem to get an address or place of work on him, yet, he will call my son when my son visit's his aunt. There MUST be a way to find him and if not make him pay at least put him in jail. What are my options to get this moving to the next level?

Re: Child Support Enforcement

You might wish to engage the services of a private investigator in the state

to which your husband may have absconded to see whether his current

residence and/or employment can be ascertained. If such is verified, DCSE

could then make an interstate referral to their sister agency in that particular state for enforcement of whatever arrearages are outstanding.

There are also Internet locators such as Accurint and others which you might also want to look into as a means of locating your absconding spouse.

You may wish to access the Federal Parent Locate Service; they may be reached via the local Health and Human Services Agency. In addition, a private investigator would likely be able to find him.
