Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Child Support Order

I am the non-custodial parent of a 17 year old. A child support order was filed about 15 years ago. Since then it has been modified 2 times(minimum) and I need to find out a couple of things.

First, how can I get a copy of the most current child support order? Second, do I have to file any paperwork with the court (fairfax county) when the child turns 18, or age listed in the order, to inform the court that I will be terminating support payments?

I want to make sure that I follow the order.

Re: Child Support Order

Go to the court where the order was entered and ask for copies from the clerk. If it's Fairfax Circuit Court, you may have to go off site to a building near the George Mason gym where old files are stored.

When the child turns 18 and has graduated from high school, you can discontinue your payments without further court involvement. But if the child is still in high school, the payments will probably continue until the child reaches 19 or graduates from high school, whichever comes first.
