Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

child support

I have been paid $950 a month for my two boys since Dec. 04. Their father has now been fired from his job due to failing a drug test for the second time and they have lost their health insurance. For the month of May he has given me a check for $312 and said thats what they'll now receive based on what he makes. My whole budget was based on the $950. What can I do? He is 35 and lives with his mom,so he has no bills. He will not admit to me he has been fired and wont tell anyone where he is now working. He told me their health coverage had expired the day after it expired. Is there anything I can do about this? Does he have a legal obligation to inform me their coverage is about to expire? Can any money he has in the bank go towards raising my child support back up?We have joint custody, with reasonable visitation. Should I stop the visitaiton or have it supervised since there seems to be an issue of drug use???

Re: child support

No, you should not stop the father's visitation; this is a matter for the court to decide. And, since only the court having proper jurisdiction over these matters, including the issue of child support, can deicde whether $312 is the appropriate amount of child support for this father to pay per month, and the father is apparently not currently paying the amount which he was ordered to pay, you should bring the matter back before the court on what's called a Rule to Show Cause.
