Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Child Support That I was Released from

I and my ex-wife signed a notarized paper stating that I was released from owing any funds for our now grown son. I recently received aletter from CHild Support Enforcement stating that my license is going to be suspended for non-payment. I received a warrant that states that I owe 0.00. This situation is ridiculous but I can not afford to lose me license. What can I do to stop this and how can they do this when my ex-wife and I signed off on it. My ex-wife is the one who decided to change her mind on this, by the way.

Re: Child Support That I was Released from

You should contact Division of Child Support Enforcement (DCSE) to determine the nature and basis of the arrearage debt that they claim you owe.

If your wife received welfare payments on behalf

of your son, this becomes a debt due and owing the

Commonwealth on your part by operation of law, and she cannot relieve you of this obligation by signing a notarized or any other paper.
