Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

child support

I am being threatened with having to make support payments over $600 monthly if I don't give up all custody. I am a student and haven't worked over two year (child 18 mos old), have been living off student loans. Would my obligation be that much. Their rationale is based on my ability to earn that much had I not been in school

Re: child support

Unlikely, but you might want to check out the Virginia Child Support Guidelines at Va. Code Secs. 20-108.1 and 20-108.2 for further information as to how child support obligations are determined in the Commonwealth.
