Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
Child Support/Change of Residence
I'm a single mother of two unruly teenaged boys. Their father and I have agreed that for disciplinary purposes, it would be in their best interest if they go live with him for the next few years. I have agreed to pay child support to him. My question is this - does Virginia base the child support determination on the household income, or just the parent's income? We have decided that since we have a very amicable relationship, that we don't want to go through the courts. He remarried a few years ago, and I have no idea what his new spouse makes. If it's not a determining factor, I won't even ask him for that information. Thanks...

Re: Child Support/Change of Residence
The Virginia child support guidelines consider only the gross income of the parents, not household income. You have no need to know what his wife makes.
