Child tax credit for non custodial parent

Should I be able to file my kids on my taxes if I provide their support and they are living with a mother who does not work? If she does not claim them are other people eligible?

Re: Child tax credit for non custodial parent

Only if the children are actually living with you continuously more than six months in any given calendar year are you entitled to claim the dependency deduction on your federal tax return.
