Collecting a judgement for child support
I won a judgement (in Virginia) against my ex-husband for back child support. Before I could attempt to collect he left the state. I have just recently found out he was living, working, and is a homeowner in Georgia. I am now living in Texas.
My question is: Is there a statute of limitations on a Virginia jugement for back child support, and if there is none, how and where should go to inorder to satisfy this judgement?

My advice would be to re-post this to the Georgia forum of attorneys. Although you can file the foreign judgement here, it makes more sense, financially to pursue it where the assets are.

You should hire an attorney in the vicinity of your ex-husband's address, have the VA judgment domesticated in GA, and then try some judgment enforcement procedures such as garnishment of bank accounts and wages.

Assuming your judgment is within the VA statute of limitations, there are specific procedures for the collection of child support judgments. I don't know how GA does that, but if you will contact me by e-mail, I will discuss with you some options.

No problem... a judgement rendered in VA is good for 20 years!!! Have the judgement recorded in GA (domesticated in GA) and garnish his wages! good luck.
