Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Conflict of Interest or Not?

I was some years ago represented by an attorney who later became a judge. During a ugly marrital break-up I was charged with A&B against my then wife. I had a public defender who seemed to be still ''wet behind the ears'' to me and a few others at the time. To my suprise my old lawyer was the sitting judge for my case. I was offered a plea ''bargin'' and upon my attorneys advice(which now seems to have been bad) I took the lowest plea that was offered in order to get away from the situtation. Now my question is as you can imagine it to be, was it a ''conflict of interest'' for this judge to preside over the case?

Re: Conflict of Interest or Not?

How so? Merely because he was your attorney years ago? That's not enough to create a conflict of interest that should counsel recusal considerations on the part of this jurist.
